Are you struggling in your relationship and left
wondering if it’s salvageable?
Does it feel like you have lost all connection between the two of you?
Are both of you are constantly battling for power and who is “right”?
Do these things cause you both to have the same old arguments over, and over, and over again?
Are all of these compounded by the oppression, discrimination, and marginalization you face on a daily basis?
One of you is “always bringing up the problem.” The other one is automatically defensive.
You aren’t trying to hurt each other, but it happens anyway. You continue to be stuck in the same familiar pattern that neither one of you knows how to end.
You could stop talking about the things that bother you, but that makes you feel resentful. You could just agree with everything your partner is saying, but that doesn’t feel like you are honoring your own reality.
What if there was a different way?

Why do I provide counseling for LGBTQ+ clients?
Growing up, I saw firsthand how some of my family members were judged for who they loved and how they identified. And unfortunately that judgment was not just coming from the outside world. It was coming from the very people who were supposed to love and support them. It was clear that family wasn’t always a safe space, and I quickly realized this wasn’t just a problem in my family. It was everywhere.
Now, in a time when LGBTQ+ rights and identities are being challenged in exhausting, disheartening, and scary ways, having a space where you can be fully yourself is more important than ever.
I also know that my privilege of being perceived as cis and straight means I do not have lived experience in many of the experiences you are facing. But what I do have is a deep commitment to learning, growing, and showing up in ways that support, affirm, and honor you.
Here’s what that looks like:
I’ve completed the Queer Competency Certification training and hold a certificate in gender, women, and sexuality studies.
I regularly consult with LGBTQ+ therapists and stay engaged in queer-focused books, forums, and research.
I’ve been working with LGBTQ+ clients for over a decade, helping couples and individuals navigate relationships, communication, and identity in a world that doesn’t always make it easy.
If you are looking for a therapist with lived experience, that’s not me. But if you are looking for someone who is always listening, learning, and actively working to support you, you’re in the right place.

Frequently Asked Questions About
LGBT Relationship Counseling

I’m a bit eclectic in nature, pulling ideas from various counseling modalities that will guide us in identifying the cause of your relationship concerns and give you tools specific to your communication needs.
More specifically, I utilize person centered therapy (which means I look at you both as the experts in your life and relationship while I am your guide and source of support), the Gottman Method (this gives you specific tools to communicate more effectively and strengthen your relationship), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (this helps us track the pattern of communication happening and what attachment needs are contributing to your concerns. It also gives us a structure for healthy communication and connection within session.)
Additionally, I use knowledge from my Queer Competency Certification to support exploration around the ways that your relationship has been impacted by the external stressors of not "fitting into society's box." We will discuss this as much as feels important and helpful to you. We will focus on honoring your identities, both individually and within your relationship.

I have had the honor of working with over 50 LGBT individuals and couples over the past 10 years. Some have been navigating the coming out process, some have needed access to letters for gender affirming care, and some have worked on concerns other than their identity and orientation but just needed a safe space to do so.
A majority of the LGBT couples I have worked with have sought counseling to deepen the connection in their relationship and improve their communication, but have needed a counselor that they could build safety with and that could understand the ways that heteronormative society pressures their relationship. -
