We are built for connection, yet sometimes the
relationships in our lives create more chaos than joy.
“Communication difficulties” is the number one reason to seek couples counseling in Windsor.
How many times have you tried to start a conversation with your partner about your relationship (or dinner or vacation or in-laws or anything that impacts the two of you), only to have it escalate in a matter of seconds?
You approach these conversations the best way you know how (or maybe you came on a little strong, but feel totally justified in doing so), yet no matter how hard you try they just won’t listen.
You’re pissed, they’re pissed, and you both find yourself thinking:
“If they would just listen to what I’m saying they would see that I’m right.”
“We just rehash the same arguments over and over again and nothing ever gets solved.”
“I want things to be like they used to be. How did we get here?”
“I want us to be on the same team again.”
“We just need to find better ways to communicate.”
Despite feeling defeated, frustrated, and at the end of your rope, you are not alone if this is the picture of your relationship.
Couples counseling in Windsor, Colorado with a licensed marriage and family therapist can help.
Imagine being able to talk about hard things without getting into a fight where you both feel hurt and upset.
You can have a relationship with a person that you trust, where you both feel heard and understood and work on finding solutions together.
In Windsor couples counseling, we take time to identify the patterns that are negatively impacting your communication and your relationship.
Once we understand the the points of communication that are breaking down, we can start implementing tools to help you navigate them with more success.
You learn about ways to start conversations that work, ways to respond so you’re both on the same page, and ways to have successful conversations.

This is the start of the relationship you’ve been hoping for.

Frequently Asked Questions About
Couples Counseling in Windsor

I’m a bit eclectic in nature, pulling ideas from various counseling modalities that will guide us in identifying the cause of your relationship concerns and give you tools specific to your communication needs.
More specifically, I utilize person centered therapy (which means I look at you both as the experts in your life and relationship while I am your guide and source of support), the Gottman Method (this gives you specific tools to communicate more effectively and strengthen your relationship), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (this helps us track the pattern of communication happening and what attachment needs are contributing to your concerns. It also gives us a structure for healthy communication and connection within session.)
-
In our first couple of sessions we focus on helping you feel comfortable in counseling. We discuss what is bringing you in and what you’d like to get out of therapy. I’ll ask questions about your relationship regarding history, strengths, current concerns, how you solve problems, your pattern of communication, and what interactions typically look like between the two of you.
Through answering these questions, we begin to identify your goals as a couple and the barriers that are getting in the way of you reaching them. We then focus on healing previous experiences that were hurtful between the two of you, finding tangible tools for communication that actually work for you, and helping you build healthier patterns of interacting with each other. You then go out into the real world and practice these tools, sharing about what does and doesn’t work so we can modify things in a way that best fits for you. You also get the experience of positive and healthy interactions that help you build trust and safety with each other.
